[0001] Apparatus for establishing measuring values corresponding to the material cross-section area of fibre slivers processed in spinning preparation
[0002] The present invention concerns an apparatus for establishing measuring values corresponding to the material cross-section area of fibre slivers processed in spinning preparation, with a pneumatic throughput measuring duct tapering off as seen in the direction of move ent of the fibre sliver.
[0003] In a device of the above mentioned type (Swiss Patent No. 436.779) the throughput measuring duct between consecutively arranged planes extending at right angles with respect to the duct axis contains a hollow room, to which a anometer is connected. The pressure measured by the manometer forms a measuring value corresponding to the material cross-section area of the fibre sliver transported through the duct. The device described, however, shows the serious disadvantage that the measuring value does not solely depend on the material cross-section area of the fibre sliver, but also depends on the fibre sliver throughput speed, the fibre shape and the fibre fineness and thus yields a biased measure of the material cross-section area of the fibre sliver.
[0004] It thus is the objective of the present invention to avoid this disadvantage and to create an apparatus yielding measuring values depending solely on the material cross-section area of the fibre sliver. This objective is achieved by an apparatus for establishing measuring values corresponding to the material cross-section area of fibre slivers processed in spinning preparation, with a pneumatic throughput measuring duct converging as seen in the direction of movement of the fibre sliver, characterised in that two pneumatic pressure measuring ducts are connected on one hand to two measuring points at which the duct is of different cross-section area and are connected on the other hand to a division circuit arrangement.
[0005] The invention is described in more detail in the following with reference to illustrated design examples of the inventiv apparatus. It is shown in:

[0008] Surprisingly, it was found that, if a fibre sliver is trans¬ ported through two pneumatic measuring ducts, the pressure in each duct is measured, and the two measuring Signals are di- vided, a signal corresponding to the material cross-section area of the fibre sliver results, which is independent of the throughput speed of the fibre sliver, of the fibre shape and of the fibre fineness.
[0009] The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 makes use of these findings. A fibre sliver 1 for measuring is transported through a funnel which in principle consists of two combined step-funnels, one of the funnels being of the lengths 1.. , 1 and of the cross- section areas A , A_ and the other funnel being of the length 1 , 1 and of the cross-section areas A_, A-, the and the cross-section area A_ thus being com on to both

[0011] At each narrowing point between the straight funnel sections two measuring points 3 and 4 for measuring the pressure are provided, each being connected via the pneumatic ducts 5 and 6 respectively, with pneumatic-electric transducers 7 and 8 by which the pressure measured by a pressure measuring instru- ent is transforπted into a proportional voltage. The trans¬ ducers 7 and 8 via electrical circuits 9 and 10 are connected with an electronic division circuit device 11 which yields an Output signal 12.
[0012] The pneumatic pressure p scanned at the measuring points 3 and 4 is transformed by the transducers 7 and 8 into proportio- nal voltage U. Both voltages subsequently are transmitted to the division circuit device 11 where their quotient is formed. The Output signal 12 is a voltage U (t) depending on the mo- entaneous titer (or linear density) of the fibre sliver, which is proportional to the quotient of the two pressures p and thus forms a measuring value of the material cross-section area of the fibre sliver 1. This measuring value now is not influenced by the throughput speed of the fibre sliver nor by the fibre shape, nor by the fibre fineness, and thus is suitable for Controlling purposes, or easily can be trans- formed by suitable transformation into a measure normally used for the material cross-section of the fibre sliver.
[0013] Application of the inventive apparatus described above is not limited to the step-funnel according to Fig. 1, as the eli ination of the biasing influences owing to the quotient formation does not depend on the funnel shape. As a through¬ put duct for the fibre sliver thus a converging funnel of any desired shape can be used, into which the two measuring ducts 5 and 6 merge at points of differing duct cross-section area.

95 Advantageous funnel shapes do not contain, if possible, abrup changes in cross-section area, in such manner that the positi of the fibres in the fibre array remains as undisturbed as possible. It also is possible to provide the throughput measu ring duct in two separate funnels arranged consecutivel , eac 100 funnel being provided with a measuring point.
[0015] Furthermore, it proves advantageous to connect the measuring ducts 5 and 6 at locations in the funnel which differ widely in duct cross-section area. In Figs. 2 and 3 funnels 2 of 105 suitable cross-section shape are shown, one of the funnels comprising a conical fibrethroughput duct section between two cylindrical sections, and the other funnel comprising a curved convergence of the fibre throughput duct.

1. Apparatus for establishing measuring values corresponding to the material cross-section area of fibre slivers pro- cessed in spinning preparation, with a pneumatic through¬ put measuring duct converging as seen in the direction of movement of the fibre sliver, characterised in that two pneumatic pressure measuring ducts (5,6) are connected on one hand to two measuring points (3,4) at which the duct is of different cross-section area and on the other hand are connected to a division circuit arrange ent (11) .
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the pressure measuring ducts (5,6) are connected via two pneumatic/electric transducers (7,8) with an electro¬ nic division circuit arrangement (11) .
3. . Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the throughput measuring duct is part of a hollow body (2) .
4. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the throughput measuring duct is part of two consecutively arranged hollow bodies.
5. Apparatus according to claim 3, characterised in that the throughput measuring duct contains a conical section bet- ween two cylindrical sections.
6. , Apparatus according to claim 3, characterised in that the throughput measuring duct cross-section area decreases continuously.
